The Ministry of Local Government, Italian Cooperation and UN HABITAT organised a workshop on 05 – 06 November to sensitise the Korogocho Residents Committee (RC) on the role of the Socio-economic survey and enumeration in achieving the overall objectives of the Programme. The workshop was attended by consultants who have been hired to undertake the survey, Korogocho RC, MOLG officials, MOL, Comboni Missionaries, Italian Cooperation, the Korogocho Chief, and the Korogocho Councillor.

The RC was informed of the importance of the survey in getting an appreciation of the existing situation of Korogocho. They were also informed of their roles and the roles of the other stakeholders during the implementation of the survey. At the end of the workshop the participants agreed on the questionnaires to be used during the survey, and that the exercise will be supervised by the MOLG.

The next steps following the workshop will be recruitment of enumerators, training of the enumerators, and then undertaking of the survey. The scope of the project activities in Korogocho involves activities singled out in key thematic areas which form a holistic and integrated strategy. These key thematic areas are the physical (land, planning and infrastructure), social (health, education, recreation, vulnerable groups, safety and security), economic (employment and income generation), and institutional which involve capacity building of partners involved. The last thematic area is environment which looks at the solid waste disposal and overall waste management all these aspects will be addressed during the socio-economic study either through a structure questionnaire or focus group discussion.
