On Friday 9th of January 2009 at the Korogocho Chief’s camp in Korogocho, the Ministry of Local Government in collaboration with the Italian Cooperation organized a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a foot bridge between the slums of Korogocho and Dandora.

The ceremony was attended by the PS Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of Local Government, Mr. Sammy Kirui, the representative of the PS Ministry of Finance, Dr. Njau,  the Italian Member of Parliament, Mrs Margerita Boniver and H.E the Italian Ambassador to Kenya, Pierandrea Magistrati.

The community identified the construction of the foot bridge as a short-term project awaiting preparation of a development plan for the area. The Community has been using a pipe that runs across the river, exposing the residents to the risk of drowning in the river.

It is envisaged that the bridge will enhance mobility between Korogocho and Dandora, reduce crime in the area and enhance business activities between the two areas. The community is upbeat that the physical implementation of the Korogocho Slum Upgrading Programme (KSUP) has began and look forward to the full implementation of the Programme.
