The scope of the project in Korogocho involves activities singled out in key thematic areas which form a holistic and sustainable integrated strategy.
These key thematic areas are:
The physical, which include, land, housing and infrastructure,
Social which include, health, education, recreation, the aged, disabled, security and safety,
Economic which involves employment and income generation
Institutional which involve capacity building of partners involved
Environment which looks at solid waste disposal, and liquid waste
The Programme Goal
The long-Term Goal of the programme is to improve the quality of the living environment of the people and enhance their socio- economic welfare through participatory planning and management of the upgrading process in line with the Millennium Development Goals.
Objectives of the Programme
To take stock of the current situation in the settlement and prepare a physical development plan for the settlement.
To provide collective security of tenure to the residents of Korogocho through establishment of Community Land Trust Deed/s for the settlement in accordance with the provisions of Land Act in Kenya.
To prepare an implementable Action Plan for upgrading Korogocho. This Action Plan will result from local consultations and commitments taken by all stakeholders.
To formulate a coordinating and management framework of the upgrading initiative.
To identify capacity needs and initiate capacity building programmes for various institutions operating in Korogocho from community level to national level institutions.
To implement concrete and immediate improvements (to ensure visible impact). A significant and important feature in the project will be the capital assistance venture that will produce tangible results.
